Just to say that it was a very nice surprise coming across this informative and interesting site. It brought back many happy memories for me as I spent a lot of time on the terraces at Layer Road with my old school chums way back in the early 1960's.
Even though I only lived in Colchester for a couple of years, I still remember the excitement of entering the ground (sometimes in atrocious weather)to see the likes of Bobby Hunt, Martyn King, Peter Wright and of course dear old Percy. I saw many great games there. Very Happy days!
One of my best schoolfiends was John 'Masher' Mansfield who, as you will know,later played for the U's. He was a brilliant schoolboy footballer at Alderman Blaxill.
Anyway, thanks again for this excellent site - it must have taken a great deal of effort to put together - but well worth it. Best wishes.....Paul
